A 52-year-old man from New City has been charged with DWI and faces prosecution under Leandra's Law, police said Monday.
The enhanced charges he faces are related to DWI under Leandra's Law. The state law mandates an automatic
felony charge for driving drunk with children under the age of 15 inside a vehicle.
The children ages 12, 10, 9 and 7 were taken to a local Hospital, the spokesperson said, after their father crashed into a tree. Luckily, there were no reports of life-threatening injuries, a spokesperson said. The results of his blood alcohol level were not available.
He was also charged with four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child and (because all were walking away from the scene of the accident) one count of leaving the scene of an accident.
Police released Ouseph without bail on a ticket to appear in Town Court.
