A suspect from New Rochelle is being charged now with felony escape after police said he removed the handcuffs and escaped through a smashed back window of the police car on Thursday night. He was inside the police vehicle because he was being transported from the Bronx Criminal Court by two detectives from White Plains to face a local forgery charge when he escaped from inside the vehicle at a red light, police said.
One of the White Plains officers injured his back while chasing the suspect, when he fell into a ravine. He was treated at White Plains Hospital.
The man was aprehended by the other White Plains detective and a county officer.
