Driver Charged With DWI in Crash

A man has been arrested for DWI after an automobile accident in Laurel on Labor Day morning, Southold Town Police said.

The Mattituck man was driving on Main Road when he left the roadway, hit a utility pole and then a guardrail at 6:35 a.m. on Monday, police said.  Then, he crossed over into the westbound lanes before he hit a tree, police said.

The driver was airlifted to a local hospital after officers found him trapped behind his steering wheel.  He was then found to be under the influence of alcohol and was charged with DWI.

He will be arraigned at Southold Town Justice Court.
