Two officers made an unprecidented arrest Saturday afternoon when they seized over half a million dollars worth of cocaine in upper Manhattan.
The two officers (both assigned to the 34th Precinct) were on patrol at when they saw a man carrying two duffel bags standing at the corner of W. 190th St. and St. Nicholas Ave. in Fort George, a police source said. He appeared nervous as the officers approached him. He then dropped the duffel bags and then walked away, the source said.
Inside the bags, the officers found 29 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of $667,000, police said. "They opened the bags and they see bricks of cocaine," said the police source. "He goes to run and they grab him."
The officers unzippered the bags and found 29 kilos of cocaine. The man was caught and then arrested and charged with drug possession, police said.
Cops believe they intercepted what is called a "drug drop", and the 29-year-old was suspected as serving as a courier to hand off the drugs.
