A Peekskill grandmother was sentenced to five years' probation after she was convicted of felony DWI under Leandra's Law. In addition, the 42-year-old's license has been revoked and she must pay $2,000 in fines, fees and surcharges for her conviction for DWI on May 30. She was the first person in Westchester County to be convicted under Leandra's Law.
Police said she was driving erratically with her two children, 7 and 11 years old, and 4-year-old granddaughter inside the vehicle. The granddaughter was not in a child's car seat. She also failed three field sobriety tests and was arrested.
She was found guilty on July 21 of three felony counts of aggravated DWI, two misdemeanor counts of
DWI, and several traffic violations. She had faced up to 4-years in state prison, but the
Westchester County Department of Probation recommended that, because she had no prior arrests, she serve no jail time.
