Drunken Driver Charged After Crash

A 49-year-old man was arrested after an accident, police said.  He told police he'd been drinking at a friend's home, attempted to drive but he collided with another vehicle.  The driver of the other vehicle suffered back injuries.

When police arrived at the scene of the accident, the Eastchester man was walking away. Police noticed his slurred speech, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath.  He refused a field sobriety test at police headquarters but failed a blood alcohol test - his blood alcohol level was 0.18 percent - police said. The state limit is 0.08 percent.

The driver was then charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
