A Dutchess County woman who was DWAI by drugs when she ran into a police cruiser, has been sentenced to 6-months of "shock probation" weekends in jail and 5-years total probation. The shock probation requires her to spend six months of weekends in the Putnam County jail. She will arrive Friday evenings and leave Sunday nights. She pleaded guilty to
vehicular assault in that 2008 crash.
Her license was revoked and she has to pay a $750 fine plus other costs. She was sentenced to 3-years of additional probation that will run concurrently with the other term, for DWAI by drugs, a misdemeanor.
The deputy was heading on Route 9 in Philipstown in 2008 when a 1998 when a truck driven by the accused crossed the double-yellow line and slammed head-on into his cruiser. As a result of this accident, the officer broke an ankle, an arm and one leg. The accident left him unable to perform his duties until he was clearned in December 2010.
It was found that the driver, who had several narcotics convictions, was under the influence of methadone when she crashed into Boscia's cruiser . She refused to submit to a chemical test after the crash which
forced police to secure a warrant to get her blood sample.
