Two New Jersey police officers on their way to a drunk driving checkpoint escaped injury when their vehicle was hit in the rear by an
allegedly intoxicated New York motorist.
Elmwood Park police say that a Mahopac man was charged with drunken driving, eluding and two counts of assault by automobile following that accident on Route 46 East. The driver allegedly drove away after hitting the police car but he was captured a short time later.
Elmwood Park Chief Ingrasselino and Lt. Thorpe were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released.
The driver was released after posting $10,000 bail.
