DWI Suspect Charged With Assaulting a Police Officer

A drunken driving suspect was charged with assaulting a police officer on Wednesday morning, Nassau County police said. 

A 25-year-old man was arrested for DWI and in the processed of being searched while being held at the Nassau County police headquarters in Mineola.   The man refused to allow the police to conduct this routine search before being placed inside a holding cell.  He became "violent and combative" and as a result of the scuffle, one of the two officers was injured.  He was treated and released from a local hospital.

In addition to the DWI charged he was additionally charged with assault.

He will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
