One person was killed and another was arrested in a one-car DWI crash on Sunday night.
Police say they received multiple calls regarding a car accident in front of a home just north of the intersection of Montauk Highway. Officers found an overturned vehicle with two passengers who required extrication by the East Quogue Fire Department.
The 17-year-old driver from East lost control of the car, crossed into the northbound lane, drove back into to the southbound lane, overturned and then struck another vehicle parked in the driveway at the home, according to police.
The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries and then was arrested at the hospital for DWI and issued summons for unsafe speed and for failure to maintain lane. He was released on appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date.
The passenger in the vehicle has been tentatively identified as an 18-year-old male who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are withholding his name at this time pending positive identification. Police expect additional charges to be filed against the driver.
