NYS police say that they arrested an alleged hit-and-run driver for fleeing the scene of an accident on the Southern State Parkway on Monday evening.
Troopers responded to an accident near exit 25, Newbridge Rd. when a driver said his vehicle was rear-ended by another driver that fled the scene at 6:30 p.m. The victim gave police the license plate number and description of the hit-and-run driver. Afterwards, troopers apprehended the suspect, a 52-year-old from Bellmore, after a brief chase at a gas station on Bellmore Avenue after he tried to run away, police said.
He was then charged with driving without a license, resisting arrest, using a vehicle without an interlock device, leaving the scene of an accident and several traffic violations.
He will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
