Wrong-way Drunk Driver Hits Police Car

A Westchester County police officer avoided a major collision with a driver travelling the the wrong way on the Bronx River Parkway on Monday, authorities said.
The officer saw headlights coming at him at 4 a.m. He swerved to avoid a head-on collision and was hit on the front corner on the passenger side, police said.
Both drivers were treated at a local hospital. The drunk driver was being treated for a broken wrist and other injuries.
The 47-year-old driver from New Rochelle was charged with
second-degree vehicular assault,
a felony; DWI, a misdemeanor; and traffic infractions. He was also issued summonses accusing him of speeding, driving the wrong way and failing to obey a traffic-control device.
