Woman Charged with DWI, Assault

An young woman is accused of assaulting a police officer after hitting a utility pole while drunk driving on the Bronx River Parkway, authorities said.
The 21-year-old was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge after failing a field sobriety test. She was taken into custody. In the booking room, "she became combative with officers, kicking, scratching, screaming obscenities and flailing her arms," an officer said.
The officer suffered injuries and was treated at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center.
She was charged with second-degree assault, a felony. She is due in Mount Pleasant Town Court on the assault charge and in Greenburgh Town Court on the DWI charge.
