Two drivers who were stopped for speeding were accused of felony DWI because they were driving with children as passengers inside the vehicle.
New York State police stopped a vehicle being driven 53 mph in a 30 mph zone and found the 51-year-old driver to be under the influence of alcohol, police said. She failed sobriety tests at the scene, police said and also had two 15-year-old passengers inside the vehicle, police said.
Then Troopers pulled over a car traveling 76 mph in a 55 mph zone on in Merrick and found the 28-year-old driver slurring his speech and a strong odor of alcohol present, police said. His infant son, who was inside the vehicle, was released to the custody of the child's mother.
Both were each charged with DWI as a felony under Leandra's Law and endangering the welfare of a child.
