Man Charged Under Leandra's Law

Cristian Jimenez, 47, of Suffern was charged with a felony Wednesday after police said he was under the influence of prescription drugs while driving his 11-year-old son to school at 7:30 am Wednesday.

He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony, under Leandra's Law, Suffern police said.

Jimenez is believed to have taken a prescription sleep aid before getting into driving into a snow bank.  Officers at the scene issued several field sobriety tests, which they said he failed.

Jimenez was arraigned in Suffern Village Court and later released without bail. In addition to the felony charge, he faces one count of misdemeanor driving while ability impaired and one count of second-degree reckless endangerment.
