Two Drivers Charged With DWI

Two men were arrested for DWI after they crashed their vehicles six hours apart.
Suffolk County police said that a 43-year-old man from Northport was driving northbound in a southbound-only portion of Nassau Road (in Huntington) when he crashed. His 14-year-old stepson was with him inside the vehicle.
While fleeing the scene of the first crash, he crashed into another vehicle, police said. Officers apprehended him. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, endangering the welfare of a child and DWI with a child in the car, a felony under Leandra's Law.Then at 11:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man from King Park was discovered
DWI after he crashed on Sunken Meadow Parkway, New York State police said.
He was arrested after he failed sobriety tests. He had a BAC of .17 percent, more than twice the legal DWI threshold of .08 percent, police said. He was charged with DWI and
traffic infractions.
Gov. Paterson signed into law the Child Passenger Protection Act, known as Leandra's Law in honor of 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, who was killed in a drunken driving accident.
