Hit & Run Driver Gets Maximum

A judge gave a woman the maximum sentence in a hit-and-run crash that caused the pedestrian to remain in a "persistent vegetative state."
The driver will spend one-and-a-third to 4-years in prison hitting a promising 24-year-old at an intersection in Brooklyn in February 2010.
Prosecutors charged that she was drinking, speeding and talking on her cell phone before the crash. The driver evaded police for days.
The Brown University graduate who had volunteered in NYC Civic Corps before suffering massive brain injuries after she was hit. She is in a coma and her condition is not expected to improve.
Police said at the time of the accident, the then 22-year-old pushed her friend out of the way at the last moment; saving her from a more severe injury.
The Judge, who recommended that the driver's license be revoked forever, said the maximum penalty allowed by law is "inadequate" in this case.
