A property manager pleaded guilty to stealing $2.3 million to support his bad lottery habit. Ex-con Richard Bassik, 67, admitted to grand larceny for stealing money meant to pay taxes, maintenance and other operating costs for the 19 buildings he managed.
Bassik used the loot to buy jewelry and to fund a lottery addiction, for which he traveled across the tristate area between 2004 and 2009.
Bassik used various schemes to steal, including opening phony insurance policies for some buildings, for which the "policy number" was his personal American Express credit card number.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Gregory Carro will sentence Bassik to 5 -15 years on Oct. 12.
