A Yonkers sanitation worker police said Wednesday was arrested and is facing drunk driving charges because he had beer, cognac and cocaine in the car. He fought with city police after they found him sleeping at a stop light.
On Saturday, Yonkers police Officers Frank Califano and John Tyndal were on Nepperhan Avenue when they heard several cars in front of them blowing their horns, Yonkers police Detective Sgt. Patrick McCormack said.
The cars went around a Nissan Pathfinder that was stopped at a green light.
The officers then saw the man sleeping inside the Pathfinder. There was an open bottle of Heineken between his legs and empty bottle of Hennessy in the car, police said. He had his foot on the brake and the car was in drive, McCormack said.
After police opened the passenger side door and put the car in park, they said the driver punched Califano in the face then struggled violently with the officers who tried to arrest him, McCormack said.
He was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, resisting arrest, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated, misdemeanors.
