State police arrested a 35-year-old of Brooklyn, Saturday on charges that he was driving drunk with four children in his car. Police said he was arrested about 11 p.m. after driving 86-mph in a 55-mph zone on I-84.
While speaking with the driver, a trooper smelled alcohol on his breath and also noticed that none of the four children were wearing seat belts, state police said.
He was then given field tests, which police said he failed, and was then charged with DWI under Leandra's Law, a state child-passenger protection law that took effect in New York last year.
The children were turned over to family members, and the driver was sent to the Putnam County jail, where he awaits a Nov. 18 court appearance.
