A Brewster man drove drunk this weekend on I-84 with three children in his car, state police said today.
The 41-year-old was driving 86-mph in a 55-mph zone on I-84 on Friday, police said. When a trooper tried to pull him over, he swerved his SUV onto the shoulder of the exit ramp to Route 121, running a stop sign and failing to use his turn signal, police said.
The trooper stopped him and noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath then saw three children, police said. The driver failed field-sobriety tests and was then taken to the East Fishkill barracks, where, police said, he refused to submit to a breath test.
He was charged with felony DWI, three counts of
child endangerment, misdemeanors, and a host of traffic infractions, police said.
Putnam County Child Protective Services was notified.
He was sent to the Putnam County jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
