New Rochelle - Police said that a Queens man accused of trying to rob two check-cashing stores in New Rochelle was arrested while standing outside one of them.
Melvin Adams of Queens was charged with two counts of third-degree attempted robbery, both felonies.
On Monday morning, Adams walked into a check-cashing store at 200 North Ave. and handed the teller a note, New Rochelle Detective Capt. Joseph Schaller said. The clerk did not touch the note but was able to see it was a demand for money. Adams then left. Employees of the store did not call police. Schaller said that about 9:15 a.m., Adams to the Inner City Check Cashing store and passed the note to the teller there. She refused to give him money, and then he left.
Adams walked back to the first check-cashing store, police said. But it was then that the employees at Inner City had called police. Using their description, police found Adams standing outside the North Avenue store and arrested him.
