Brewster - An illegal immigrant from Guatemala who was deported after serving time in state prison on a felony drug conviction was arrested last week in Brewster by the same narcotics investigator who arrested him in 2008.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office the undercover investigator received a tip that Gerson Peralta, 21, had returned to Brewster after being deported last year. The investigator then set up surveillance outside 151 Main St., and arrested Peralta around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, charging him with parole violation - as part of his sentence, he was required to return to Guatemala and not re-enter the U.S. illegally, police said.
Peralta was taken to the Putnam County jail in Carmel, where a fingerprint analysis confirmed his identity. Jail officials notified federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which placed an immigration-detainer warrant on him.
The Sherriff's Office stated today that he will remain in jail today without bail while awaiting further proceedings that could result in additional time in state prison.
