Ex-controller Accused of Embezzling

Mourad Boulas, 46, the former controller for the Castle on the Hudson restaurant and hotel in Tarrytown, was arrested Friday accused of embezzling $400,000 from December 2004 to October 2008.

According to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, their nine-month probe showed that he stole the money by writing checks to his wife (who had no association with the business) and to shell companies for services never provided.

Castle on the Hudson reached out to the District Attorney's Office.  It was then that the Investigations Division began the inquiry into the business's finances.

Held on $350,000 bail, he is due in Tarrytown Village Court on Wednesday on a felony charge of second-degree grand larceny. If convicted he faces from five to 15 years in prison.
