Port Chester - Police say that a Bronx man who tried to use forged identification to steal $3,300 from a Port Chester TD Bank branch had tried the same scam at a TD Bank in Rye only hours earlier. But because the tellers had been notified earlier by bank officials, he did not succeed.
Bank officials called police when David Valerio presented a forged New Jersey ID and a withdrawal slip. He then reportedly got spooked, grabbed the identification and withdrawal slip and then ran from the bank where police apprehended him behind Post Road Plaza while he was attempting to run through the woods behind 260 Boston Post Road.
Port Chester police Lt. James Ladeairous said that Valerio still had the forged New Jersey identification bearing his picture and the printed withdrawal slip for $3,300 bearing the same false name in his possession.
He was charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument, both felonies, and second-degree criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor. He is being held without bail pending his appearance in Port Chester Village Court Thursday.
